According to the Source, in October 2024, cement export from Pakistan surged, reflecting significant growth in international demand. According to the All-Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA), total cement dispatches reached 4.357 million tons, marking an 8.74% increase from October 2023’s 4.006 million tons. Generally, this substantial jump was fueled by a robust 51.29% rise in export volumes, which outweighed a slight decline in local cement dispatches.
Cement Export Surges in October 2024: A Closer Look
Exports Propel Growth: The most impressive figure from October 2024 was the 1.080 million tons exported, compared to just 714,325 tons a year earlier. Furthermore, this surge highlights Pakistan’s growing footprint in the international cement market. With North-based mills leading the charge, exports increased by a remarkable 65.83%, reaching 202,858 tons. In contrast, South-based mills saw exports rise by 48.28%, delivering 877,833 tons abroad.
Regional Insights: Cement Dispatch Patterns in North and South Pakistan
Cement Exports Rise from North and South Mills
Cement mills in the North shipped 2.982 million tons, showing a modest increase of 2.76% compared to October 2023. However, mills in the South experienced faster growth, dispatching 1.374 million tons, a 24.46% rise from last year’s 1.104 million tons. At the same time, exports from both regions grew, highlighting the strong global demand for Pakistani cement.
Domestic Market Trends
Although exports grew, domestic cement sales stayed flat. North-based mills sold 2.779 million tons locally, almost the same as last year. On the other hand, South-based mills faced a slight drop, selling 496,626 tons—a 3.06% decrease. However, the overall industry remains strong because of rising international demand.
Fiscal Year-to-Date Performance: Cement Dispatches Decline in Total, but Exports Shine
For the first four months of the fiscal year, total cement dispatches (local and exports) reached 14.633 million tons. It represents a 7.92% decline from last year’s 15.891 million tons. Domestic demand dropped significantly, falling by 15.02% to 11.410 million tons. However, exports boosted, growing by 30.74% to 3.223 million tons.
North vs. South Dispatches: Mixed Results
North-based mills sold 13.23% less cement domestically over four months, but exports grew by 28.95%, totaling 709,959 tons. Meanwhile, South-based mills faced a larger 23.59% drop in local sales. Still, they enjoyed a 31.25% export increase, with total shipments reaching 4.280 million tons. Hence, export growth continues to support Pakistan’s cement industry.
Looking Ahead: Strong Demand to Drive Further Cement Export Growth
Pakistan’s cement industry may expand further because of strong international demand. Accordingly, this growth could lead to increased production and innovations. Industry leaders are watching both export markets and local demand, hoping to build on this positive export trend.
