What Is the Chromebook Prime Minister Scheme in Pakistan?

The Prime Minister’s Youth Chromebook Scheme is a Pakistani government program. It gives refurbished Chromebooks to high-scoring students. In essence, the government wants top Grade 9 students to own a study device. The scheme will give out 500,000 Chromebooks over two years. Each student also gets a MiFi device, a small Wi-Fi hotspot, and a bag. PM Shehbaz Sharif launched it in Islamabad on October 25, 2026.

PM Youth Chromebook Scheme Eligibility - Launching Ceremony held in Islamabad in October 2026.

The education ministry runs the scheme with the Prime Minister’s Youth Program. The Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) checks results and runs the portal. At the same time, Tokyo Technology Care Foundation (TTCF) supplies the devices, according to Geo. No outlet we read has published the budget. Tribune reports that the PM said wealth must not hinder access to education.

How the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme 2026 Works in Four Stages?

The portal and Geo’s explainer show the same order. In summary, four stages take a student from exam results to delivery.

  1. Boards send the results of top performers to the IBCC.
  2. Students find their record and upload documents on the portal.
  3. The IBCC verifies results and prepares merit lists.
  4. A courier delivers each device to its student.

Why Reports Differ on the Timeline?

Reports differ on the timeline. Dawn, Geo, Tribune, and The News say two years. ProPakistani’s launch story says three. In December 2025, a government press release announced 700,000 Chromebooks, but the 2026 launch says 500,000. Officials have not explained the gap. We use two years and 500,000 here, since most sources agree.

Chromebook Pakistan Explained: What Is a Chromebook?

A Chromebook is a laptop that runs Google’s ChromeOS. The system centers on the Chrome browser and Google apps. Besides web apps, many models run Android apps from Google Play. Most Chromebooks use Wi-Fi. Gmail and Google Drive also work offline.

Chromebooks suit schoolwork. You can write in Google Docs and join online classes. They do have limits. To illustrate, Photoshop has no native version for Chromebooks, according to Digital Trends. Many other desktop programs won’t run either.

Chromebook Pakistan: Local Assembly Line vs. Scheme Devices

Pakistan opened its first Google Chromebook assembly line in 2025, according to Dawn. Arab News places the plant in Haripur. At this point, no outlet we read links that plant to this scheme. Further, TTCF supplies the scheme’s refurbished devices. Do not assume your Chromebook comes from the local plant.

What Are the Eligibility Criteria for the Chromebook Prime Minister Scheme?

Chromebook Launching Event Celebration.

As of October 26, 2026, the portal sets the rules for PM Youth Chromebook Scheme eligibility. Only top-performing students from government or public schools qualify. In particular, selection depends on your 2026 annual exam results. Generally, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan consider Grade 9 (SSC-I) students. Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Islamabad, and Gilgit-Baltistan consider students in Grades 9 and 10 (SSC-II).

PM Youth Chromebook Scheme Eligibility by Region

RegionGrades consideredSchool type
Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, BalochistanGrade 9 (SSC-I)Government and public
AJK, Islamabad (ICT), Gilgit-BaltistanGrade 9 (SSC-I) and Grade 10 (SSC-II)Government and public

Geo adds a minimum score rule. Students need at least 50% in SSC-I, and the IBCC verifies the ranking. Furthermore, students go to the highest-scoring schools in each region and stream until the quota is filled. Moreover, ProPakistani reported a BISE Peshawar list with 424 marks in Science and 315 in Arts. That is one board’s list, not a national cutoff.

Can Private School Students Join?

Not under the official portal. It says only students in government or public schools qualify. On the other hand, Geo’s explainer also lists private schools that provincial education foundations fund. Neither other outlets nor the portal mention them. We follow the portal, the primary source. If your school gets foundation funding, ask your board before you apply.

Do Madaris Students Qualify?

Officials say yes. Dawn reports that the government promised one in five Chromebooks to seminary students. Geo says madaris students undergo separate vetting by the Directorate General of Religious Education. Nevertheless, the portal’s eligibility rules mention only government and public schools. No outlet we read explains how madaris students apply. Ask your madrasa administration for the exact process.

How Many Chromebooks Does Each Region Get?

Geo and ProPakistani print a quota for each region. Punjab gets the most devices. Comparatively, Balochistan gets the fewest of the four provinces. The quotas add up to 500,000.

RegionChromebooks
Punjab181,090
Sindh85,925
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa51,170
Balochistan31,815
Islamabad100,000
Azad Jammu and Kashmir25,000
Gilgit-Baltistan25,000
Total500,000

Islamabad’s quota of 100,000 looks large for a small territory. Further, the Asian Mirror also flags it as unexplained. Additionally, in each region, about 80% of devices go to school students and 20% to madaris students. Particularly, school students are split 70% Science and 30% Arts, say Geo and ProPakistani.

How to Apply for the Chromebook Prime Minister Scheme Online?

You apply on one official site: pmychromebooks.ibcc.edu.pk. In brief, you find your record, check it, upload four documents, and submit. Generally, the IBCC runs the portal. Moreover, do not use any other site or agent.

Step-by-Step Guide to the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme 2026 Portal

  1. Open pmychromebooks.ibcc.edu.pk on your phone or computer.
  2. Select your education board from the list.
  3. Enter your CNIC, B-Form, roll, or registration number. Type numbers only, with no dashes.
  4. Enter your date of birth exactly as it appears in your board record.
  5. Click “Find My Record.”
  6. Check your name, school, and marks on the screen.
  7. Upload your photo, mark sheet, and attested copies of your ID. Review every field.
  8. Submit the form, then download your slip and save your reference number.

You can’t edit the form after you submit it. Take your time on the review screen. Above all, check your name, marks, and school. The portal says false information cancels your Chromebook allocation. Each student may apply only once.

Documents You Need

Gather four files before you start. A phone photo often needs resizing first. Most important, keep each file readable and under 300 KB. Basically, the B-Form is NADRA’s child registration certificate, and the CNIC is the national ID card.

DocumentFile typeSize limit
Recent color photo, front-facing, plain backgroundJPG or PNG300 KB
Mark sheet (SSC-I or SSC-II)JPG, PNG, or PDF300 KB
Attested copy of your B-Form or CNICJPG, PNG, or PDF300 KB
Attested copy of your father’s or guardian’s CNICJPG, PNG, or PDF300 KB

What If Your Record Does Not Appear?

Try a different number first. Search with your roll number or registration number instead of your CNIC or B-Form. Subsequently, if the portal still shows nothing, contact your education board. Boards send their lists of top performers so that a missing record may delay the process.

Deadlines Depend on Your Board

The portal shows no single national deadline. Each board sets its own dates. On account of that, check your board’s website and social media pages today. For this purpose, BISE Multan’s notice set October 19, 2026, for its students. That date has passed. Ask your school principal too.

PM Youth Chromebook Scheme 2026 for Sindh Students

Sindh students can apply later. The portal says Sindh registration opens once every Sindh board declares its 2026 Class 9 results. In light of that notice, the Sindh option on the form stays off. ProPakistani’s October 26 fact-check confirms that the scheme still includes students from Sindh.

The portal gives no date. Sindh’s quota is 85,925 devices, according to Geo. Further, use the wait to scan your documents and shrink each file below 300 KB. Simultaneously, watch your board’s announcements for the result date.

How to Check the Status of My Chromebook Prime Minister Scheme Application?

You can’t check your status online yet. As of October 26, 2026, the portal has no tracker. Its only lookup is the “Find My Record” search. Accordingly, your reference number and slip serve as proof of application. You receive both when you submit the form. Hence, save the slip on your phone and email it to yourself.

Chromebook Distribution Ceremony Held in Islamabad October 2026.

Boards and the IBCC verify results and prepare merit lists, says Geo. Eventually, provincial departments confirm your enrollment and school. Each device links to one student by serial number. A courier then delivers the device to you.

Geo says a central system tracks every dispatch, delivery, and failed attempt. In other words, officials can see each device. Students can’t yet. Basically, the portal offers no public tracking page. Be careful with any site that claims to offer one.

Delivery, Repairs, and Complaints

If something goes wrong, use the grievance route. Geo says redress committees work at the exam board and at the provincial or regional level. To explain, they handle complaints about rankings, list inclusion, enrollment checks, exam data, and missing devices. Moreover, start with your board’s office and keep your slip handy.

A contracted firm will handle repairs after the first year of delivery, says Geo. Further, no outlet has said how long the MiFi data lasts. Business Recorder reports that each MiFi could serve five more students, bringing the total to 2.5 million people. Ask your school about data limits.

Chromebook Pakistan Tip: Check the Update Date Before You Rely on It

A refurbished Chromebook can look new and still sit near the end of its software life. Google says Chromebooks get 10 years of automatic updates. Generally, some models from before 2021 follow different rules. Therefore, check this for scheme devices and for any Chromebook Pakistan shop listing. After all, updates bring the security fixes your device needs.

You can check the date in a minute. Select the time in the bottom-right corner and open Settings. Choose About ChromeOS, then Additional details. In short, read the Update schedule section. It shows the last update your device will receive.

Test the battery and screen on day one. Hence, if you find a fault, tell your school and board at once. On the whole, years of updates left matter more than a shiny case. Report an early end date too.

Chromebook Pakistan Buying Guide: What If You Miss Out?

Many students will not qualify. The Chromebook Pakistan market offers other routes. Of course, prices vary by shop. Moreover, online shops listed used models from about Rs. 9,500 on October 26, 2026. Basic models often cost up to about Rs. 18,000. New and premium models cost far more.

Compare at least three shops. Prices vary, and price guides disagree. To demonstrate, one 2026 guide lists the HP 11 G8 at Rs. 13,000 and Rs. 15,000. Pakistan Connect published it. Look for a return window. TheTechbooks lists 15-day replacement, and MyChromebook.pk lists 7-day returns. Check the update date before you pay.

Can a Chromebook Help You Learn and Earn?

A Chromebook won’t earn money on its own, and nobody should promise you that. Despite that, it gives you a place to practice writing and learn online. Therefore, read our guide, How to Make Money Online in Pakistan with GBOB, for one income model.

PM Chromebook Scheme vs. CM Punjab Laptop Scheme

Other programs may suit you better. Our post on the CM Punjab Laptop Scheme 2025 outlines a plan to provide 50,000 laptops. In general, schemes change fast, so check each notice’s date before you apply.

PM Youth Chromebook Scheme Eligibility: Quick Answers

Is the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme Free?

The portal lists no fee, and ProPakistani’s headline calls the Chromebooks free. To clarify, no outlet has published the budget or named who pays. Therefore, never pay an agent or a website.

Can Punjab Grade 10 Students Apply?

Not under the portal’s current rules. Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan consider only Grade 9 students. To point out, Grade 10 students qualify only in AJK, Islamabad, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Will Colleges or Universities Join the Scheme?

No notice says so. The published rules cover Grade 9 students, plus Grade 10 in three regions. In truth, no outlet we read mentions college or university students. Watch the IBCC portal for any new notice.

Which Chromebook Model Will Students Get?

Officials haven’t named a model. They describe the devices only as refurbished Chromebooks. Evidently, memory, storage, and screen size remain unknown. Check the update date when yours arrives.

Application and Deadline Questions

Can I Edit My Form or Apply Twice?

No. Each student may apply once, and you can’t edit a submitted form yourself. To emphasize, check every field on the review screen. Hence, if you find a mistake later, ask your board for help.

Which Documents Do I Need for the Chromebook Scheme?

You need four files. Upload a recent color photo and your SSC-I or SSC-II mark sheet. Additionally, add attested copies of your B-Form or CNIC and your father’s or guardian’s CNIC. Keep each file under 300 KB.

What If I Miss My Board’s Deadline?

Contact your board at once. The portal lists no national deadline, and each board sets its own. Emphatically, do not trust a site that sells deadline extensions. Additionally, Geo says grievance committees handle complaints about list inclusion.

Sindh and Safety Questions

Is Sindh Included in the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme?

Yes, Sindh students can apply, though registration has not opened yet. The portal says it opens once every Sindh board declares 2026 Class 9 results. Explicitly, ProPakistani’s October 26 fact-check says the scheme still includes Sindh. Geo lists Sindh’s quota as 85,925 devices.

Can an Agent Get Me a Chromebook?

No. The scheme is merit-based, and the IBCC portal is the official route. As a matter of fact, the portal lists no fee. Any agent asking for money deserves suspicion. Pakistan Observer and Amuoba also warn readers about fake sites.

Final Thoughts on the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme 2026

The PM Youth Chromebook Scheme 2026 awards top Grade 9 performers a study device. Qualifying takes good marks and careful paperwork. All in all, the next steps are short. Find your record on the portal and upload four documents. Furthermore, save your slip and meet your board’s deadline. Sindh students should watch for their board’s results. We will update this guide as new notices arrive.
